You're always in the picture with the new Gasdetect 308

Gasdetect 308, the unbeatable leakage monitoring system for chlorine, chlorine dioxide, ozone, ammonia and hydrochloric acid, is equipped with a range of functions that provides users with optimum safety combined with minimum labour input. Special features include automatic sensor recognition, automatic sensor test cycles and failsafe relays.

The new potentiostatic gas sensors for Gasdetect 308 are membrane-covered sensors with an integrated microprocessor. One unit can use two interconnected sensors to monitor two different gases, two different gas concentrations or two different gas storage rooms in parallel. Separate potentiostats (also known as sensor interfaces) can be used to install the gas warning unit away from the sensors in an external central control station.

The sensors are calibrated when delivered. Once the sensor has been installed, the gas warning unit recognizes the sensor calibration data immediately via an internal CAN bus interface. It uses this data to calibrate itself automatically. The system now functions without the need for maintenance.

An additional advantage of this intelligent sensor technology is that Gasdetect 308 recognizes immediately if the wrong sensor is plugged in. Moreover, it also detects when the sensor is removed. Another useful feature for service scenarios is that the sensor microprocessor records all events chronologically with the date and time in a digital list. The data can be called up on Gasdetect at the push of a button and displayed in plain text. The unit records the following data:
  • Results of sensor tests
  • Incoming and outgoing (repaired) alarm signals
  • Calibration data (slope)
  • All settings

But that's not all - a whole range of additional data also required for service operations is stored in the sensor, including the sensor type, manufacturing date, storage time to installation and the operating time. This function provides the user with a unique lifetime monitoring system for the sensors. Gasdetect recognizes automatically when a sensor's service life (storage life + operating time) is coming to an end and when the sensor must be replaced, and issues a signal accordingly.

A further technical specialty is "live" monitoring of the gas sensor - for the automatic sensor test function, the required time intervals for automatic self-tests are entered in Gasdetect. The set cycle time is shown on the Gasdetect display.

For additional safety in the monitoring process, an optional backup battery is available with a 24 VDC voltage supply that ensures uninterrupted operation in case of mains failure. This feature will, of course, be of no use if the battery is not charged sufficiently. Therefore, one output of the Gasdetect system is permanently assigned to backup indication to show whether the battery is ready for use in an emergency.

However, Gasdetect 308 is not only a real highlight because of its intelligent sensor technology. It also provides "failsafe" technology for all relays, which means that all relay functions (switching direction, limits and limit delays, alarm generation, switching alarm relays to NO and NC contact function) are available for user programming. This functionality provides users with the highest possible level of flexibility and allows them to adjust the gas warning unit as necessary to provide the level of monitoring safety required for the application in question.

Last but not least, Gasdetect 308 has an external CAN bus interface. This feature enables the unit to be connected to the bidirectional visualizing software AquaVision from Grundfos Alldos, allowing it to be operated and controlled from a PC. As with all measurement devices from Grundfos Alldos, Gasdetect also comes with a user code function to protect the unit against unauthorized access.
