Plant for the Istanbul waterworks |

Shock chlorination for a water
quantity of 55,000 m³/h! This is the result of a large project
carried out by Grundfos Alldos for the city of Istanbul together with Durko
as the local representative. The background: the municipal waterworks
of the Turkish metropolis draw their raw water from a local lake.
The water is routed from there to the various waterworks for treatment. To
enable problem-free transport, disinfection must first be carried
out so that the pumps and pipelines do not become overgrown with
mussels and algae. The plant had to be dimensioned such that it
is able to add 15 mg/l chlorine to the raw water within 10 to 20
minutes prior to entry into the pumping station.
And this was the solution: four Grundfos Alldos oil bath vaporizers which
convert liquid chlorine into gas. In addition, four Grundfos Alldos large-scale
chlorine systems operating under vacuum and controlled by a PLC
to exactly dose the calculated quantity of chlorine. Pressure surges
which could occur because of the enormous water quantities and the
pressures to the injectors are reliably prevented due to the PLC.
With this program, the valves are opened and closed step by step.
A specially calculated injection system exactly doses the chlorine
solution into the inlet channel to the waterworks. This guarantees
optimum, homogeneous mixing.
Grundfos Alldos of course also paid particular attention to plant safety.
An integral component is a chlorine monitoring unit which starts
up a neutralization plant in the event of a leak.
